That’s true, but it’s fair to say the majority of the sales aren’t from the die-hard fans. The issue is more that the die-hards are in influential positions – like Engadget or Shane Richardson of the Independent, who wrote 3 articles on the new iPad in one morning. These are the media outlets that largely influence consumer purchases.

The reality distortion of Jobs was essentially to lie convincingly, or only focus on the better parts of the product. If you watch Tim Cook introducing the new iPad, it was shoddy – his speech had technically flaws, either outright lies or he was just confused on what the specs were. That and the differences in Cook and Jobs can be read more here http://www.digitaltrends.com/apple/opinion-did-apple-overpromise-on-the-new-ipad/ it’s an interesting read, and Apple no longer being under Jobs’ control could have quite a large impact on the company.

But the thing is, fans don’t care if it’s right or wrong. They prefer Apple products over competition, be it anything. Changing their mindset is going to be tough. Jobs’ ‘reality distortion’ field has had a deep impact on peoples’ minds.
