I’ve actually caught a couple of episodes on YouTube recently to refresh my mind and it was a great comic role for him. It’s quite a surprise to see him play such a different character so effortlessly. The tough former-military character of Bodie in The Professionals wasn’t without his humour and charm though and watching them again makes one appreciate just how talented an actor he was. I once guffawed at a colleague’s remark when they suggested that he would make a good James Bond – I think it was the time when Pierce Brosnan took over – but in retrospect, I think he would have been great.
